Brother alerts Marion fire crews his sister is still inside burning home
MARION, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - A young girl was flown to Riley Hospital for injuries she received in an early morning house fire in Marion.
The Marion Fire Department says crews were called to 612 West 2nd Street just after 2:30 a.m. Thursday, where the brother of the young girl was on the roof of the house pointing to a window where his sister could be found.
The Marion Police and Grant County Sheriff departments had tried to rescue the girl before fire crews arrived, but were forced to get out of the house because of heavy smoke and heat on the second floor.
The fire department says crews were able to find the unresponsive girl on a couch just inside the window of her bedroom. Crews also helped the girl’s brother down from the roof of the house.
The house was occupied by one adult, two juveniles, and several family pets, the fire department says.
The girl was airlifted to Riley Hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. The condition of the girl was not released.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
