Indiana abortion debate causing family division for a daughter and her state senator father
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - The abortion debate continues and for some Hoosiers it’s been crossing family lines.
WTHR in Indianapolis interviewed 40-year-old Jessica Doriot at the statehouse rally on Monday. Her father is Indiana State Senator Blake Doriot (R-Goshen).
“I felt that passion today,” Jessica Doriot said. “My sign said, ‘Senator Doriot, keep your laws off my uterus. Love, Your daughter.”
Jessica says she supports the access to abortion in Indiana and is overall pro-choice. However, she says she expects her father to vote for more restrictions on abortion access.
“When we talked about it, he said, ‘One of my children is going to be happy,’” Jessica said. “I have a sister who’s for a total ban. I have a sister who’s for exceptions, and then you have me, who’s completely pro-choice.”
This division surrounding the abortion debate seems to be apparent among many Hoosier families and Fort Wayne’s NBC News will continue to provide updates on the topic.
