Former Fort Wayne police officer facing indecent exposure charge
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - A former Fort Wayne Police officer is facing charges of exposing himself after a person complained to police, according to court documents.
Erik Melia faces a misdemeanor charge of indecent exposure after an alleged incident on Thursday.
A probable cause affidavit says investigators spoke with a woman who had received text messages from Melia asking her to come smoke with him in his car outside of her home. The woman told police that she had been asked to smoke with Melia several times and that she did, including during his shifts with the police department. She also said she previously communicated with him in a work capacity.
The woman told police he texted her Thursday saying that he was waiting outside of her home in a car and that he was sexually pleasuring himself. She told investigators that it made her uncomfortable and she was worried he would not leave if she declined his request. Court documents say the woman went outside and and found Melia with his shorts unzipped. She recorded video and audio where Melia admitted to the behavior.
The affidavit says the video also captured the moments when Melia asked the woman to participate in sexual activity, which the woman declined and called it inappropriate.
