Man arrested in Sunday stabbing
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - Fort Wayne Police say a man has been arrested in connection with a stabbing on July 3, 2022.
Police say around 8:52 a.m., officers responded to a man lying in the road in front of 505 E. Washington Boulevard. Officers found a man suffering from a stab wound, police said in a statement. The man was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
On Monday, July 4, police arrested Michael Martin, 58, in connection with the stabbing, police say. Martin has been preliminarily charged with attempted murder.
A probable cause says surveillance videos show that the stabbing took place in the fenced-in area of dumpsters located at the business on Washington Boulevard. The video shows two people lying under the dumpsters when the victim approached them, the document says. The video shows Martin stabbing the victim in the chest numerous times, before gathering his belongings and fleeing the scene with a woman. The surveillance video shows Martin and the woman getting on bicycles and going east.
The victim was able to positively identify the suspect after police used a photo array, the probable cause said.
Police found Martin riding the bicycle downtown that matched the same bicycle in the surveillance video, the probable cause said.
