FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - The Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo says the Jungle Dome is now back open in the Indonesian Rain Forest exhibit after it was closed due to Avian Influenza concerns.
Within the Jungle Dome Aviary is the popular Orangutan Valley that features endangered Sumatran orangutans. Because of the Avian Flu concerns, the area was closed to visitors.
On Friday, the zoo posted on Facebook that the entire area is now open again and the orangutans are back out as they slowly reintroduce birds to their outdoor habitats.
“As we begin this transition, our Veterinary staff and Zoo Keepers will continue to monitor the Avian Influenza and keep a watchful eye on the birds who trust us with their care,” the post reads.
