FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - The Carroll High School football team and entire community are remembering one of their own tonight.

Owen Scheele passed away on Tuesday after a brief cancer battle. His family had been providing updates from Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis, where he had been taken by air ambulance, and late Tuesday afternoon, the Carroll Chargers football Twitter account shared the news no one wanted to hear.

Owen underwent surgery on Monday to address cranial pressure, but his prognosis was not encouraging.

Relatives, teammates and friends asked for prayers for both Owen and his family. The Chargers quarterback was a rising senior.

In its social media post, Carroll football said, “We have an angel playing for us this year,” with a tag: #OWENSTRONG.
