Columbia City and Leo capture regional titles with hot starts and strong pitching
COLUMBIA CITY, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - Columbia City and Leo softball both continued their dominant postseason runs, capturing regional titles on Tuesday night.
The Eagles (28-1) protected home field, 5-2, over a Carroll team that had just dispatched of Summit Athletic Conference champion Northrop.
Columbia City’s Bethany Haselby drove in four runs.
The Eagles will fly to semi-state for a program record second straight year.
They will visit fellow one-loss Harrison (West Lafayette) for a chance to advance to state on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Lions (27-2) also defended their den in an, 8-0, shutout victory over Jimtown.
Leo pitcher Ellie Sauder fired five scoreless innings.
The Lions will take on Kankakee Valley in semi-state at Twin Lakes on Saturday at 11 a.m.
