HOWARD COUNTY, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - The Howard County Coroner’s Office says a missing 80-year-old woman who had a Silver Alert issued on May 26, was found dead in a ditch along the road.

Betty Lucille Stroup was found with her dog, that was also dead, in the area of 1700 N. Reed Road (IN931), on May 29 just before 9 p.m., the coroner’s office said.

The Indiana State Police issued a Silver Alert for Stroup after she had been reported missing from her home around 3:43 a.m.

The coroner’s office says the initial findings of the cause of Stroup’s death were consistent with drowning, after an autopsy by a forensic pathologist. The final ruling on Stroup’s death is pending toxicology results.

Anyone with information about Stroup is asked to contact Detective Rod Shaffer at 765-614-3475 or the Howard County Coroner’s Officer at 765-456-1186.
