FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - GFL is now one step closer to being the City’s next garbage and recycling hauler.

The City of Fort Wayne’s Board of Public Works approved a contract between the City and GFL Environmental USA on Tuesday. Fort Wayne’s NBC obtained the contract with GFL on April 26, which calls for service to 83,400 households. The city says the estimated cost of garbage collection for 2022-2023 is $11,100,000 and is expected to increase annually.

Now, City Council must approve the contract. The council is set to discuss and possibly vote on the contract at Tuesday evening’s meeting. Pending final approval from City Council, GFL could begin solid waste collection services on July 1.
