City of Fort Wayne: Sick drivers delay garbage and recycling collection
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - Officials with the City of Fort Wayne are asking for patience and are warning residents of a slow down in weekly garbage collection that could last for a few weeks.
An increase in positive COVID-19 Red River drivers and City of Fort Wayne Street Department employees is to blame, a statement from the City said Tuesday.
Even though collection is a day and a half to two days behind, residents are encouraged to continue to set out their recycling and garbage on their scheduled day.
The sick call have affected 32% of Red River drivers and 20% of Public Works and City Utilities staffing, which impacts the City staff helping on routes. The City is supplementing the shortage by having the City staff making collections, depending on staff availability.
