Site work on Lofts at Headwaters Park to start in January, City says
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - The City of Fort Wayne announced on Wednesday that site work on The Lofts at Headwaters Park project is set to start in January.
The project, located where the current Club Soda parking lot is, is a six-story mixed-use building with 217 apartments, 15 townhomes, 12,000 square feet of commercial space, and a parking garage with 651 spaces.
Officials say the site work that starts in January 2022 will include the removal of soil across the entire 2.86-acre site. A perimeter fence will be installed around the site and sidewalk for safety during construction, a release sent by the city says. They also noted that trees in the area will need to be removed; however, crews will plant 71 trees at the site, which they say is 19 more than what currently exists on the site.
Indianapolis-area-based developer Barrett & Stokely and the City agreed to a $67.5 million investment into the project. Construction is expected to start in the summer of 2022 after soil removal and site work are complete.
The release says Club Soda will remain open during construction, and can be accessed through the existing entrance facing north towards Headwaters Park. Customers can park for free at the lot at the southeast corner of Superior and Clinton Streets (120 E Superior Street) and public parking is available near the restaurant most evenings and weekends
They also say the Commission has coordinated with the Headwaters Alliance and the various festivals to accommodate space and parking needs during the festival season. Headwaters Park will remain open and accessible throughout project work.
