COURT DOCS: Argument over allegations of infidelity led to fatal Christmas Eve shooting
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - A 34-year-old Fort Wayne man has been arrested in the Christmas Eve shooting that killed one woman, court documents show.
Police were called to the 2300 block of S Lafayette Street around 9 p.m. Friday based on reports that a woman was dead after an argument. The woman, 30-year-old Brittany Deck, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her death was eventually ruled a homicide.
Probable cause documents obtained Monday by Fort Wayne’s NBC show Jacob Chacon was arrested on a charge of murder in the shooting. Documents say Chacon, who was in a long-term relationship with Deck, was told earlier that day there was photographic evidence that Deck had a previous affair with one of his friends.
Deck said she feared for her safety, so she brought a relative back to their house, saying she thought Chacon wouldn’t hurt her if that relative was present. The relative, a minor, said she was at the house along with Deck’s two children when Chacon came home and started arguing with Deck about the affair.
She said Chacon started battering Deck and throwing her belongings outside when the relative said she heard Deck yell “Jacob please don’t” before a single gunshot was fired.
The relative said she then heard Chacon say “baby no, baby no” before running out of the house and telling her to call 911. Documents say Chacon was arrested a few hours later after police say he was found with “significant quantities” of blood on him.
Brittany Deck is the 47th homicide victim in Allen County in 2021.
