Arrest made in 9-year old’s death, stepmother in custody

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - Fort Wayne police made an arrest in connection with a 9-year old’s death from over the weekend.

Officers arrested 30-year old Alesha Miller Tuesday They say she’s the stepmother of 9-year old Elijah Ross, who died Saturday. Documents say Miller faces preliminary charges of aggravated battery resulting in death, neglect of a dependent resulting in death and two counts of neglect of a dependent.
Online police logs show officers were called to the 800 block of Putnam Street around 1:15 p.m. Saturday, December 18, for what police deemed a “juvenile neglect/abuse investigation”.

The Allen County coroner said Tuesday that preliminary autopsy results showed multiple blunt force injuries and at the time, the cause and manner of Ross’ death was pending for further investigation and testing.
The coroner says Ross’ mother and her spouse took the boy to Lutheran Downtown Hospital where life-saving measures were unsuccessful.
