19-year-old arrested in fatal shooting of young victims
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - A 19-year-old has now been arrested in the fatal shooting of two young victims, ages 16 and 19, court documents show.
Fort Wayne Police say they responded to the 700 block of Cumberland Ave. after reports of a man down in a garage Friday, Dec. 3, around 2:30 a.m. When officers arrived, they found two victims who were pronounced dead at the scene.
The Allen County Coroner has identified the victims as Brendan Steave Cole, 19, of Fort Wayne and Juan Jose Ramirez Jr., 16, of Ypsilanti, Michigan, and ruled both deaths homicides.
Wednesday, police said they arrested suspect Tre Zwieg, 19, on two counts of murder, two counts of felony murder, and burglary.
Probable cause documents say someone called police stating they heard about ten gunshots in the area of Cumberland Ave. Police responded and found two victims down in the garage, wearing ski masks with multiple shell casings around them.
A witness told police after she heard the gunshots, she saw a man running away from the home and described him as having the same build as Zwieg. She said Zwieg told her she needed to tell police that he was with her around the time of the shooting and wouldn’t let her leave until she agreed to provide the alibi.
Documents say police found several photos of guns and ammunition on Zwieg’s phone, some of which he attempted to delete, and found that the rounds matched the ammunition discovered at the crime scene.
The documents do not detail what exactly lead up to the shooting.
