GivingTuesday: Local shelters seeking donations to help animals
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - Fort Wayne’s animal shelters are asking the community to consider donating to them this GivingTuesday to help them continue to give vital care to shelter pets.
Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control (FWACC) and Humane Fort Wayne are both seeking donations from the public as part of GivingTuesday on Nov. 30. GivingTuesday started in 2012 to encourage residents to give back to nonprofits in their communities.
FWACC said in 2021, over 7,600 animals were brought in needing medical care or to be placed into a foster home. They say they’re able to help save these animals’ lives thanks to generous donations from the community to their Angel Fund.
“Nearly $200,000 has already been spent to help cover life-saving procedures and equipment in 2021. As an open-access shelter, FWACC does not turn away any animal in Allen County for any reason. Often, animals come to us in great need of medical care and the Angel Fund is our only option to help save their lives,” FWACC Community Relations & Education Specialist Holly Pasquinelli said.
Humane Fort Wayne officials say they hope to see record giving this GivingTuesday, and all gifts will be matched up to $15,000. They say now more than ever, they’re needing donations to support local pets and owners through their comprehensive adoption, pet retention, low-cost spay/neuter, and wellness clinic programs.
“GivingTuesday is the single largest donation day of the year for us, and because we receive no tax dollars, it’s crucial to our lifesaving mission,” Executive Director of Humane Fort Wayne Jessica Henry said.
Donations to FWACC can be made online at fwacc.org, in-person, over the phone at 260-427-1244 option 1, or mailed to Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control at 3020 Hillegas Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46804. Donations to Humane FW can also be given online, at www.Humanefw.org or by calling the shelter at 260-744-0454. Learn more about GivingTuesday here.
Aside from much-needed donations, Humane FW is also looking for volunteers:
