Fort Wayne business to help Indianapolis great-grandmother with pool repairs
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - The owner of a Fort Wayne business will soon be lending a helping hand to an Indianapolis great-grandmother months after the walls of her swimming pool collapsed.
Tim Saxer, the owner of Only Alpha Pool Products, is one of eight business owners giving back to an Indianapolis great-grandmother.
Kitty Smith is 80 years old and purchased a home last summer with her life savings. However, a heavy February snow left her heartbroken.
“I couldn’t believe what I was seeing,” Smith told WTHR in Indianapolis. “This has just been my dream, my whole life.”
For a while, it didn’t get easier for Smith and her grandchildren. Her insurance company said it wouldn’t cover the nearly $90,000 needed for repairs because of a leak that caused all of the problems.
That’s when Saxer got a call from a repair shop in Westfield. Then he and seven other owners from across the state stepped up.
“To see them come together, to help our somebody in need is fantastic,” Saxer said. “I’d say probably about 75% of them are competitors. I think it’s great that they’re all going to step up to get a job done.”
Saxer’s team is responsible helping with the structural parts of the project, like the walls and stairs.
“I just kind of reflect back on 29 grand-kids and great grand-kids,” Saxer said. “To me that’s what life is all about, it’s about helping out your family.”
Repairs to Smith’s pool are expected to take a few months, weather permitting.
