Local man sentenced after stealing mail from over 200 people
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - The US Attorney’s Office says a Fort Wayne man was sentenced to 10 months in prison today after they say he stole mail from hundreds of victims.
A release sent by the US Attorney’s Office says 39-year-old George T. Oliver was handed 10 months behind bars and two years of probation on Friday after pleading guilty to theft of mail.
Case documents say in early 2021, Oliver was arrested after a brief pursuit with police. When he was arrested, police say they recovered 269 pieces of stolen mail from 236 different victims.
This case was investigated by the United Postal Inspection Service with the assistance of multiple local law enforcement agencies, including the Allen County Sheriff’s Department, Whitley County Sheriff’s Department, and the Columbia City Police Department.
