Red River leaders fail to show up to council again, next a vote to subpoena
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - Red River Waste Solutions officials did not show up to Tuesday night’s city council meeting for the second time in a row.
“Clearly I’m not surprised,” Councilman Russ Jehl said.
Jehl says they reached out to Red River leaders multiple times inviting them to the meeting, but they got no response.
“The next step will be the resolution to set up the committee that then can issue the subpoena,” Jehl said.
Jehl says he plans to draft up a subpoena resolution Wednesday, then the council will take a vote and decide whether to move forward with a subpoena.
“Doing this by flushing out the subpoena process we give them the opportunity to show good faith or bad faith and that then allows us to adjust our legal strategy more appropriately,” Jehl said.
Councilman Glynn Hines says he’s disappointed in the contractor Red River.
“Very disappointing but its expected. They haven’t shown up since the got the contract on a regular basis picking up the garbage so it looks like the leadership that promised that they would have a good positive leadership in Fort Wayne has not lived up to that billing,” Hines said.
Both Jehl and Hines say they want to talk to someone who represents Red River and want them to take responsibility for their missteps.
“We haven’t seen ya for a long time, you haven’t been picking up the garbage are you gonna put your honor back on the line or are you just gonna hide behind your attorneys?”Jehl said.
“I don’t know what the outcomes gonna be I would like to see someone with the company if not the CEO someone from the home office come to us and say here are the facts,” Hines said.
A spokesperson for the city says they are going to be meeting with council members in the coming days to give them updates on the issue.
Fort Wayne’s NBC has reached out to Red River for an interview, but they have not responded.
