Fire at Lima Road hotel leaves residents displaced

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - The Fort Wayne Fire Department is looking into what caused a fire at Hawthorn Suites on Lima Road.

Crews were called to the 4900 block of Lima Rd. just before 8 Tuesday morning. When they arrived they found flames coming from the roof of the building, FWFD officials said.

Firefighters said there was damage to two buildings. Investigators said there is heavy damage to the roof and upstairs units.

Investigators said it wasn’t immediately clear how many people were displaced by the fire.

FWFD officials said there were no reports of injuries to people or animals.

Firefighters did knock on several doors and got people out, according to the department.

There were two cats and a dog who were rescued by Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control, officials said.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
