Charges filed in Halloween stabbing
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - A 25-year-old man has now been arrested and charged in connection with a stabbing on Halloween that left a man with life-threatening injuries.
Court documents say police were called to 1100 block of Franklin Avenue on reports of a stabbing that had taken place in a nearby home. They found a man inside whose stomach had been slashed and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
The victim said two men came into his apartment armed and tried to rob him when they got in a fight where he was cut.
While police were searching the area, Daniel Vega, 25, walked into a nearby hospital suffering from cuts, as well. They said the vehicle he arrived in matched the description of the vehicle owned by a woman who was inside the apartment with the victim at the time of the incident.
When police searched the apartment, they said they found a pry bar at the top of the steps, a box cutter and what appeared to be a bb gun inside.
In an interview with police, Vega said he and the second man were waiting in his wife’s SUV as she went inside the apartment to get money from the victim. He said they were “messing around” with two bb guns when they went inside to tell her they were ready to leave.
Vega said as they went inside, the victim “just started to attack them with a knife,” leading to the stabbing injuries.
Vega is currently charged with burglary and battery by means of a deadly weapon.
