Fort Wayne Police respond to barricaded suspects early Wednesday morning

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - Two men were taken into custody after police responded to the scene of a reported battery and barricade early Wednesday morning.

Shortly after 1:00 a.m. officers responded to the 3400 block of Cheviot to a reported battery that had taken place. According to police, the responding officers were advised that the possible suspect was known to have weapons in his possession.

Upon arrival, officers attempted to make contact with someone inside the apartment. After multiple unsuccessful attempts, police were able to communicate with one man, who refused to exit the residence.

Emergency Services Team members then introduced chemical munitions into the apartment and the two male suspects exited immediately.

Kenneth Copeland Sr. and Kenneth Copeland Jr. were taken into custody.

Copeland Sr. was transported to the Allen County Lock-Up and charged with false reporting. Copeland Jr. was transported to police headquarters for questioning with possible charges to follow.

The incident is under continued investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office.
