FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - A 29-year-old man admitted to his involvement in an armed robbery turned homicide that took place in 2019.

Leon Lumpkin, of Fort Wayne, pleaded guilty to murder, robbery, and battery charges in court on Friday.

The plea deal calls for a maximum sentence of 65 years if it is accepted by a judge.

On May 30, Lumpkin fatally shot 20-year-old Arrianna Henderson at the Chapel Oaks Apartment complex. Police were originally called about an armed robbery but when they arrived, they found Henderson shot to death.

Lumpkin told police he thought he recognized Henderson as a member of a gang that rivaled his brother’s. Court documents say after he shot her, he stole her credit card, phone, and headphones before attempting to rob a second woman who was able to get away.

He is set to be sentenced on Dec. 17.
