Father admits guilt in shaken-baby case, sentenced to 14 years
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne's NBC) - A man who admitted to shaking his 3-month-old son to the point the boy had a brain bleed was sentenced in court Friday.
Eugene Estrada Jr. pleaded guilty to neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury and was sentenced to 14 years in prison.
The child's caregiver testified in court Friday and said the baby is still under a doctor's care. The boy has undergone physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy.
Initially, doctors told police the baby showed symptoms caused only by violent, repeated shaking. The child was previously in critical condition from a brain bleed.
The boy's mother, Morgan Bruan, is expected to go to trial on a neglect charge in November.
