Carroll's fearsome foursome and Northrop's Shaton Vaughn quest to repeat as state champions started with a bang louder than a start gun.

Thursday night, Carroll's 4x100 meter relay team of Justin Becker, Jarod Brock, Cam Shank and Spencer Smith sped past Snider to win a sectional championship at North Side High School.

"We just know that we can compete with anyone and I think we proved that today," said Becker, Carroll Senior. "We've been proving that all season long that we're hear to compete and everyone should watch out for us."

In the 300 meter hurdles, Vaughn showed off his speed beating out his closest competition by about a second and a half.

"I still run like there's someone faster than me, because I don't want to get passed up at the last second or get beat by someone because they were working harder," said Vaughn.

Vaughn and the Carroll 4x100 relay team will try to win regional championships next week at Marion High School.
