Fort Wayne students get rare opportunity in Washington, DC
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne's NBC) -- Students from a Fort Wayne school got to experience Washington, DC in a unique way Wednesday.
Emmaus Lutheran School sent its 7th and 8th grade Social Studies students to Washington, DC for the final field trip of the year. The students headed out Sunday night and drove through the night.
During the trip, the students got to visit many memorials, including the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on Wednesday. Four students had the opportunity to present and lay a wreath at the tomb. The students won an essay contest at the school to have the honor, something their teachers had to reserve a full year in advance.
The students were wrapping up their trip Thursday with a visit to Mount Vernon and Gettysburg before making their way back home. They are expected to return to Fort Wayne Friday morning.
