Police looking for help after man allegedly used counterfeit bills to buy lottery tickets
Police are looking for help in a recent counterfeit currency investigation.
The Fort Wayne Police Department said the counterfeit purchase happened on January 7 at the Marathon gas station on St. Joe Road. The man allegedly used several counterfeit $20 bills to buy Indiana Lottery scratch-off tickets.
The clerk told police the man asked for $5 and $10 bills back even though he won a $75 and $50 prize. It wasn't until the clerk was about to cash out the $50 prize that she realized the $20 bill he handed her was fake.
When confronted, the man said he did not know what she was talking about and that he won it from a dice game. Police say store owner called the department and the man ran away. The clerk said the man said he wasn't going to jail for this before running off.
Police say the suspect is a 6'0" to 6'2" black man in his early to mid 20's. He was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt and gray shoes. Anyone that knows the identity of this suspect is being asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 436-7867.
