FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- (Fort Wayne's NBC News) 83 area veterans headed to our nation's capital to see the monuments built in their honor as part of the 26th Honor Flight, Wednesday. 

This honor flight will include more Korean and Vietnam War veterans among those who served in WWII.

Honor Flight participants will witness a special ceremony Wednesday morning as the Friends of the National World War II Memorial will host a brief ceremony and wreath presentation at the World War II Memorial's Pacific Arch to mark the 75th anniversary of the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands.

The community is encouraged to help welcome the veterans home as they arrive back in the Main Terminal of the Fort Wayne International Airport Wednesday 8:30 p.m.
